What is Happy Hour?
While happy hour often revolves around Spanish and Mexican influences (after all, what’s better to wash down a bowl of chips and guacamole than a refreshing sangria or margarita?), we thought we’d take a look at another regional celebration of this special “unwind” time. According to Pomo Pizzeria Napoletana at the SHOPS Gainey Village, the Italian version of happy hour is aperitivo, “a special time for community and friends; a place to gather as a ritual.” Also referred to as “table talk,” aperitivo in Italy, and more importantly at Pomo, includes enjoying cocktails and small plates while sitting back, relaxing and spending time with friends and family. Pomo’s happy hour… ahem, aperitivo, takes place in the bar every Monday through Friday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and features cocktail specials and small bites such as house made mini meatballs, panzerotti (tiny fried calzones); calamari and a salumi board with an authentic mix of cured meats, parmigiana, olives and bread. Cheers to that!
